I once had a 1981 Olds Delta 88 with a 1.56 rear end. YES, a 1.56 rear end. It was a Texas car and got 25 mpg avg on trips. 307 V8, 3 speed tranny with lock up torque converter. Without the torque converter locking up, it would get 15 mpg avg on trips. So, maybe some of your poor mpg is your AOD.
