The MAXX belongs in the nether world of design.It's not a proper notchback,and it's not a proper squareback.
It is possible that GM has already optimized the C-pillars such that for what it is,it's already optimized for drag.
If you wanted to do some Cardboard And Duct tape (CAD) experiments,you might mess around with a Kamm-like extension extending to the rear of the hatch.
Here is a study Hucho did at Volkswagen with the 1st-gen Golf/Rabbit.Around the 'Template' line he got the lowest drag.
