Keep the stem and flat bars if the length is right for your body. I use a pair bar end grips moved inboard each 5 inches from center as my aero position. My light and speedo still fit. A car or tractor alternator of 35 amps or less would work for a generator set up. A spare rim might work with a belt to get the right rpm range.
