Keep the stem and flat bars if the length is right for your body. I use a pair bar end grips moved inboard each 5 inches from center as my aero position. My light and speedo still fit. A car or tractor alternator of 35 amps or less would work for a generator set up. A spare rim might work with a belt to get the right rpm range.

Mildy pooped now!
In other news, according to ebay, I'm due to recieve the bike computer and brake blocks in the next day or so. Tyres are due Thursday.
Hopefully have first meaningful update at the weekend

Woooop!
First of the parts have arrived
Tyres look decent- certainly are thinner with what feels to be rubber, as opposed to the plastic like old tyres.
Inner tubes have a different valve system to the one on the bike currently-so I'll need to decide whether to use them, or keep them as spare.
Bike computer booted up and tested-just gotta get the transponder fitted to the bike, and see how it goes.
May try to fit them tomorrow night once i've had my ride.

So, started to install ebay trinkets!
First up was the bike computer- a new fangled wireless device!
Simple case of applying the magnet to a spoke on the rear wheel, and mounting the sensor/transponder.
On my ride(turbo trainer) this evening it gave an average speed of 11mph over 30mins-pretty much bang on my average speed on Strava.
Very pleased for less than £5!

If you want to keep your new tubes you can buy an adapter to bridge the gap between the Devil's Valve* (presta) to normal Schraeder. It's just a little brass cylinder you screw onto the end of the presta. Better than presta, worse than Schraeder, and available for about $0.50 from your LBS. It'll work with your pump, though!
*Also known as, "$&%# these stupid twisty valves!"
How do you like the new tires? Do they roll better?

I like to pull the cables and grease 'em up good. They stay nice and slick far, far longer than cables lubed with oil.

I shall investamagate! A lack of grease precludes such work occurring today
