Except the engine compartment is a nightmare to work in vs the MKIV Jetta/Golfs.

I had an 03 Golf, 5 speed. It would get a consistent 45mpg and I did zero hypermiling. Loved that car. 600+ mile tanks are EASY once you delete the fuel filler vent *meant for gasoline* and let the fuel tank hold it's true potential.

I had several 700+mile tanks in that car.

The ALH *imo* is the best TDi. Simple, reliable, efficient and if you stay on top of timing belts will run forever.


If you don't already have it I recommend Rosstech Vagcom highly. Without it trying to set your injector pump timing is a guessing game. There's a whole bunch more it does besides just that.
