As it is stock, the Metro gears are actually quite appropriate for its engine size for cruising around 55 mph. Its not too happy at 65 mph. Too much time spent above peak bsfc on its chart. I do one trip a week at 65 mph and it KILLS my mileage haha. At 45 mph (what I primarily drive it at), its a bit too low on the bscf chart which means it takes a little P&G.
If I did a bunch of aeromods to reduce drag I'd, definitely want a taller geared trans to make up for the load reduction.
