At least 4-investigators measured drag increases when the depth of the air dam was increased beyond some optimum depth.
For racing,1-investigator found that a 'VERY' low air dam would give a 1% drag reduction,although it would be useless for the street.
An 'active' air dam could address this issue.Volvo's done it.Ford has done it.
