If you do a full system flush to get rid of all the Dex-cool you can run whatever coolant you want. I'm not sure how well Death-cool plays with the universal varieties but brand specific coolant is one of those auto industry trends that infuriates me. They all do the same thing, just 1 maker adds something that sets up a catastrophic failure because the owner topped off with a quart of green stuff. After which GM's statement to the owner would be "these things need to be left to the professionals, this fluid is specifically designed to optimize GM engines and you voided the warranty by not using GM product that costs 2x more than the regular coolant". My Focus has gold coolant. No idea what that means but I'm happy the system was flushed and filled with brand new Ford stuff around 150K miles, but if I need to replace anything in the cooling system in the future, the whole system will be flushed out with water and universal added in, I'm not playing games with this non-off-the-shelf garbage the OEM is attempting to force us into using.
