I read more, put a thermostat in that car right now. Maybe 10% better mileage.

do you know where the coolant temp sensor is at? i was thinking in a 2.2 cavalier the sensor is in the return pipe from the radiator, if the corsica is like this it maybe normal. my saturn typically sees 184-186, and the sensor is in the head right next to where the coolant returns from the rad. however i was thinking the 2.2 in an s-10 had the sensor right next to the thermostat, where i'd expect to see about 195-198

looks like 2 is the stat, and 1 is the sensor..... so um yea, nevermind, +1 to what mech said

Yep. That special coolant is called Dex-Cool. It is made for GM vehicles. When you go to the auto parts store, just ask for the orange coolant. They'll hook you up!

If you do a full system flush to get rid of all the Dex-cool you can run whatever coolant you want. I'm not sure how well Death-cool plays with the universal varieties but brand specific coolant is one of those auto industry trends that infuriates me. They all do the same thing, just 1 maker adds something that sets up a catastrophic failure because the owner topped off with a quart of green stuff. After which GM's statement to the owner would be "these things need to be left to the professionals, this fluid is specifically designed to optimize GM engines and you voided the warranty by not using GM product that costs 2x more than the regular coolant". My Focus has gold coolant. No idea what that means but I'm happy the system was flushed and filled with brand new Ford stuff around 150K miles, but if I need to replace anything in the cooling system in the future, the whole system will be flushed out with water and universal added in, I'm not playing games with this non-off-the-shelf garbage the OEM is attempting to force us into using.

The mpg is impressive for its size and auto trans. It's nice to see some diversity in ecomodding.

thanks for clearing that up spacemanspif I knew it couldn't possibly be true! I figured maybe the quality of the fluid has improved I know they changed it to dex- cool in 95` for this car.

wish I had the owners manual or at least a PDF of it.

tank MPG will be >30MPG. lots of idle and lots of testing / cleaning. I'm thinking ill have the same tank "average Joe" would get at the end of it.

thanks drainoil I try my best! scangauge 2 is my favorite video game! ( dreamcast is second)

I have the day off but I took my coworker to work today. 36.7 not bad!

he pays for my fuel so i'm happy to take him even on my day off

Cleaned out the interior and trunk with 409 and did all the glass with windex.
still dirty

I was going to do the thermostat, new coolant, remove the hubcaps and disable the DRL's but it started raining.

I had no idea the MPG was so good on these, either. It's got three MPG higher than my Probe, and I got 40MPG out of that with a boat tail at 60MPH and no P&G. And 45MPG with P&G and no tail...

You should be able to top 45 on the freeway with some extensive aeromods. Throw a 3G Camaro rear window on it, haha!
Let me introduce you to the Chevrolet Corsica hatchback!

Not that the mpg isn't impressive (it is), but these things aren't all that big. Aren't they about Cruze size if not smaller?

I definitely like them, they're very nice looking late 80's-early 90's sedans. It's unfortunate that there don't seem to be many around anymore. Good luck OP
