My 98 Civic is on 13" VX wheels, running Michelin Defenders. I love 'em. Compare the UTQG ratings and realize that the General Altimax is rated 600 and the Defenders 820. Remember that replacing the Generals possibly after 25% fewer miles means the price is a bit closer to the Defenders than at first seems to be the case. Also, replacing them more often means you pay for mounting/balancing more often. Add the fact that the rebate brings the Defenders' price to merely $75 ... the Defenders are about equal or maybe a bit cheaper. IMHO. And the Defenders are low rolling resistance tires while the Altimax is not. I hope that helps.

I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.
