they are both 'New Edge' designs produced by ford at the turn of the century.
As chefdave states, your Cougar is based on the Mondeo and came owith a 2.0 or 2
5v6 over here. The puma is 2 classes smaller (Ford Focus being the in-between size) and is based on the Fiesta.
