I started driving 55 MPH on the freeway back when that was actually the speed limit, that would have been around thirteen years ago. I tried pulse-and-glide for a while, but it did not seem to improve my tank-to-tank averages. The only comment that I ever had with a passenger was when someone was trying to merge, the guy asked if I was going to let him in.

"I am driving 55 in a 65 and everyone else is driving 75."

"Good point."

However...

During seemingly civilized conversations when we were simply talking about driving, I would mention what speed I drove, and people would fanatically insist that driving slower was more dangerous than driving faster.

"That may be, but I would rather get into an accident at 55 MPH than 75."
