It's not uncommon around here, but usually only if you're trying to preserve something special. I know a couple of guys who have winter beaters because they have summer-only RWD sports cars.

I don't know anybody else who's trying to preserve a 17 year-old Firefly/Metro though.

A friend of mine saw the Prius last week and said: "Your winter beaters are nicer than your summer car!"
