Thats what they did with my brothers GMC diesel when it ate a glow plug with 600 miles (from new).
They started off telling him they were going to repair that engine. With my advice he told them the second strike was when he picked up the repaired vehicle, so a single comeback meant they got the truck back.
They replaced the engine and had their best tech do the job. I'll bet the road test and post repair check over was the most thorough that dealership had ever done.
