Thats what they did with my brothers GMC diesel when it ate a glow plug with 600 miles (from new).

They started off telling him they were going to repair that engine. With my advice he told them the second strike was when he picked up the repaired vehicle, so a single comeback meant they got the truck back.

They replaced the engine and had their best tech do the job. I'll bet the road test and post repair check over was the most thorough that dealership had ever done.

regards
mech

Darcane,

I actually have a set of universal joints, but I just may need a short socket. The electrical tape is a good idea, I tried using a u-joint and it just pivoted all of the way to one side. My other concern was if there was enough of a gap for the extension.

I bought these wobble socket extensions from Harbor Freight for $15:

All that I needed to do was put the socket on the bolt, reaching in with one finger from each side, reach the wobble extension through, lock it in without knocking the socket off of the bolt, and then remove and retrieve the socket once I tightened the bolt!

Once I cleaned the lock-tite out of the hole, the bolt went in easily enough, but I wish that I had picked up a wire brush to clean out the threads.

Thanks everybody for your help!

My ex insisted that the Quick Valve leaked and acted upset when I asked if it was tightened fully. A mechanic said that it was not leaking, oil was just dripping onto it, but I am going to put the old bolt in. New oil and filter, new coolant, I just need to tighten a few things and hopefully the car is good to go!

Glad that you've fixed it, but for next time: A crow's foot wrench may also help out. They're the only way to access some bolts.

Dave, I had a mechanic tell me about crow's feet, although it seemed to require a great deal of space around it.

Brad, cross-threading is never good.

bradallen226, it turns out, is a clever "paraphrase and regurgitate" bot.

Post #2 (me): "I hate to say it, but if it's getting tight when it's that far away from the surface, it's probably cross-threaded...."

Our Friend Brad: "I dislike to say it, but if it's getting limited when it's that far away from the outer lining area, it's probably cross-threaded...."

It's done the same thing on 2 other threads today and hijacked someone else's intro.

Either that, or Brad is a 5-year-old who doesn't know a synonym for "axle," and Daddy accidentally left the computer on. Who will volunteer to build a long term relationship with him?

You can report Brad by clicking on the little icon on the bottom-left of his posts, below his name. That should bring the post to the attention of the mods.

I guess will Brad will never fulfill his dream of achieving a long-term relationship.

Poor Brad.
