The Amazonas is fitted with a Volkswagen air-cooled engine and the 4-speed transmission, but its secondary drive was through a chain. IIRC it still had the differential assembly, but it was welded locked and had the ring mounted in the same side as in the earlier Kombi in order to reverse-rotate as it was now behind the engine.




Anyway, if I were going to build a motorcycle with a car engine, if I were going to use an inline-4 instead of a flat-4, I'd probably mount it transversely and attempt to get it shaft-driven instead of chain-driven.
