Heh.
All this joking about over specced rigs ignores how cheap and stupid people are. Yes, cool kids ride a one ton with a diesel to commute and sometimes they haul a bag of groceries. Getting what you want instead of what you need is silly, but it gets beautiful when what they really want is a low price. That's when they say "The 1/4 ton
looks just like the 1 ton and costs half as much!" And then loads it up because "full-sized" somehow means "heavy duty."
We had an idiot buy a 1500 this spring for fifth wheeling. His camper place said "We'll install the 5th wheel, go get a truck." The 1500 cost way less than the HDs, so he bought that after asking sales if a 5th wheel could be installed. Yes, you can install one. Sales didn't lie, they gave a truthful answer to a question so wrongheaded that it was calculated to fail: a random car salesman can't be held responsible for the fact that the exact load you're thinking of pulling is too heavy for the truck you told the salesman you wanted to buy.
But he picked his truck based on what he wanted to pay for, not what he wanted to do. Letting that spec come out of your fantasy world and dictate life choices is even funnier.
