Hard putty sounds like it'll work.
My relay is normally closed, the switch opens it. My problem is that I also want everything to be removable, so powering the relay has been a problem. In my vast amounts of free time, I'm working on it.
I don't know about the DRLs. I pulled my fuse out immediately and haven't seen them since.
