Veen's FIT - 2009 Honda FIT Sport M/T

This thread is to log and discuss modifications to my '09 Honda FIT Sport in all it's baby blue glory...

Similar to Gandolph, I want all my mods to be [mostly] reversible. If I have to drill a few holes in the dash, or under the car, as long as they are finished cleanly, and look mostly stock, I'll let it go.

I don't necessarily plan to sell the car, but I'd like to leave the option open. And with NH being an inspection state, I don't need extra scrutiny on my car every year.

The nerd in me want's to ABA test all these Mod's as I go along. The hard part is going to be finding some flat, straight, road in NH. I'll post test results, assuming I do them, for all mods.

Completed Mod's to date
  • Oil Change - Synthetic high mileage 5w-20, might user thinner next time
  • A/C on defog delete
  • Max Sidewall Pressure
  • Ultraguage mount

Mod's this year (hopefully)
  • DRL delete
  • Block heater install
  • Rear spoiler delete - I've heard the FIT spoiler is worse than nothing, ABA test to verify
  • Partial Grill Block
  • Antenna delete
  • Additional 12V accessory outlet - not really ecomod but hey

Future Mod's
  • Engine Kill switch
  • Passenger side mirror delete -
  • Fog Light covers
  • Belly Pan - at least under engine, would be nice to do it all
  • Front Air Dam
  • Rear wheel skirts
  • Kammback or other "boat tail" - I want to keep the ability to but bikes or a hitch rack on the back. I'll reuse the rear spoiler mount points to mount something

Ultraguage Mount

Made this out of InstaMorph. It's a plastic that flows at a low temperature (150F). You heat it up in near boiling water and then can mold it into whatever you need. I could have done a neater job with the end result but it works for now. I may try to 3D print it in the future.

Nice list!

I'd suggest bumping up the kill switch on your priority list personally.

I'm thinking about it. I just finished a "Kill Switch Enable" switch today and mounted it in the car next to the 12V outlet enable switch. I'm still looking into the best way to kill the engine in the FIT and how I'll get that done.

I can see the needle on the side pretty well. It covers a bit more than I'd want from 0 to 20 (still visible) but I'm not usually concerned with my exact speed when I'm in that range. More concerned with RPM and engine load at that point.

Flowable at 150 degrees isn't good for a dash mount in the summer, even in New Hampshire. I got UG's horizontal surface mount for like $6- and mine's offset to the left so I can see the trip odometer.

PaleMelanesian found that the belly pan acts as a grille block (that's where the air coming in through the grille leaves the engine bay), so they're probably an either/or.

Interrupting the ignition coil fuse seems simplest to me. I got Daox's 3D printed shifter switch but am still trying to power the relay properly. It'll happen.

And welcome!

I'll have to see how it goes. It doesn't really melt at 150, more like a hard putty. It might lose some shape though.

Makes sense with the belly pan, air cant come in if it doesn't have anywhere to go. I would think it'd be easier to seal the grill vs the post engine air path though.

Are you using a normally open or closed relay? I would think you'd only want to power the relay when shutting off the car. I also had a thought of putting a short timer with the kill switch so any amount of depressing the kill switch button will keep the engine off for the proper amount of time so that it doesn't come back to life. Could be done with a 555 timer or small micro controller.

I went to do the DRL disable today and wanted to see the lights once before disabling them. Funny thing was, I didn't see any lights on with the engine on! Does th car need to move forward or something to enable the lights? I checked all the lights by turning them on manually. All seem to be working.

Hard putty sounds like it'll work.

My relay is normally closed, the switch opens it. My problem is that I also want everything to be removable, so powering the relay has been a problem. In my vast amounts of free time, I'm working on it.

I don't know about the DRLs. I pulled my fuse out immediately and haven't seen them since.
