Here's three-row seating on a Type I floorpan, the Porsche 700. With a center driver like the Pillbug and Macpherson struts in front it would be a credible replacement for the Type II. Then the Volkhart-Sagitta replaces the Type I and ATZ Online's dream comes true.

Seems like the 700 would have been a great vehicle for post war German reconstruction.
I've gone camping in my Transporter with a bunch of folks and all our gear,and we never had trouble,even when negotiating the mountains of New Mexico.
That 3-row Porsche would have been fine.And worth $40,000 today!
