I've hit over 39.5 mpg 3-times,so it's not out of the realm of possibility. With a Diesel,turbo,direct-injection engine we'd be talking 51.35 mpg for these black swan events.44-mpg average.
That was at 55-60 mph,so speed may be a deciding factor. And mountain elevations/air density will also come into play.
19-mpg going to 40-mpg is a 2.1X mpg increase. It's off the charts if we're talking strictly aero, but that's also figuring a constant BSFC,and we don't have an engine map to help us predict how the engine will actually behave.
I suspect that the 3.0-L V-6 and existing gearing won't allow it.
The lowest LRR tires wouldn't hurt either.
(braggarts of the future:"mine's smaller than your's!")
