Elsewhere in this forum, there is a thread about air intake temperatures, and a temp of 108F was mentioned as ideal for good fuel economy. If your average fuel economy goes up, then that's what you need to do.
Do you have the 2.4 liter four? My brother has had about four Tacoma's and the earlier ones had that engine -- not one of them did not make it to 300,000 miles. It is a very strong and durable engine. My father-in-law also has had two of them and they last a good long time.
