I don't know about professoring,but I've been talking about aero with close friends since 1974,after CAR and DRIVER's 'CRISIS FIGHTER PINTO' article was published in March of that year.
NASA was conducting some of their research while I was at Edwards Air Force Base,but I never got to see any of it.
