One pedal operation of a perm magnet ev still "coasts" when you are neither adding power nor taking it away from the wheels. The back emf from the spinning motor exactly matches the forward voltage from the controller so there is no current flowing even though your foot is still part way down on the accelerator pedal.
.
Having max accel and max regen all on one pedal simply means that you don't have to lift your leg to the other pedal to slow down or even hold a hill apparently since the new system will actually apply and release the friction brakes by itself at a stand still so you still don't have to move your foot to creep along in traffic jams.
