John - hope you don't mind I combined the two separate threads about this into one.

A friend of mine does commercial driver safety training for waste management companies. They generally have horrid collision rates.
The first thing he does in the case where there are 2 people per truck is implement a "both people get fired if there's a reversing collision" rule.
Suddenly reversing collisions are no longer an issue.
