Same thing happened to me. I bought a hp laptop in 2010 when the one I bough in 2002 hard drive quit 3 days before I left to go to Afghanistan. The now 5 or 6 year old hp laptop stopped working a few weeks before I left for Afghanistan this but I believe it's repairable.
So I took my backup dell little laptop I picked up last year.
