I'd just keep an eye out for one that is closer.
At one point I was considering flying from Portland to NYC to buy a 2006 Acura TSX 6-speed. They are incredibly rare, and it seems the east coast has cheaper cars.
I'm glad I found one local, as it saved me from having to take vacation and drive across the country.
The motorcycle in my avatar was purchased on Ebay in 2003. I drove a Subaru 5 hours to get it, then brought the bike back on a Uhaul trailer. I got a great deal on a 2 year old bike in perfect condition.
