I drove to Oshkosh in 1997,joined the EAA,and camped out there for the whole week, attending as many Alexander Sport Air workshops (all free) as I could juggle.
I watched them do a tail-dragger restoration,all the special sewing,reinforcements,doping etc..
Really light weight!
In college I worked for a veteran flight instructor who also did vintage,cloth-covered aircraft full restorations. It was my introduction to the technology.
My late neighbor Bob was a Vought/Boeing guy, owned and flew Luscombs, built a gyrocopter and I got to be around that as well.
Bob did a cloth-covered aeroshell for his Chevy and a cloth-covered boat tail for his Vanagon.
I hope to be around long enough to dirty my hands in this stuff.
Appreciate all the info.
