Have you thought about using Oratex Oratex Aircraft Fabric

In a nother conversation and somewhere hear Aerohead stated September 9 Darco and 11 for Human speed out by Battle Mountain. Im coming from Montana so I want to make shure my accommodations are for the right time frames.
Its just over 1/2 a tank 405mi to Ogden for me so I'm in . Let me know thanks. Gumby Stay Flexible

*I better stick to what I'm familiar with if I'm to make it through.I'd love to do something like a doped fabric covering in the future.
*Yes,the DARKO reservation is for 1:00 PM,September 9.
*If it isn't rained out,we're gonna try for the USFRA World of Speed,on the 10th.
*After that I'll head for Battle Mountain
*As things get closer, send me a PM and contact info and I'll tell you where we're staying in Ogden. That's unknown as yet.

It sounds like you are familiar with the text portion of an A&P witch includes the instructions of applying certified fabric.... The attachment can be the same,or use a wraparound and heat welding like I did The shrinking is the same ,but with the boat wrap and you're done. Run your prototype for a year then pull the skin mod(read twek the design to account for needed changes based on observations,) recover.done ... find the sweet spot on shape and then step up to the CAA approved Oratex for a 20+ year CAA skin at 1oz/sqft.(under 2lbs for a complete canopy)
at 175usd for a 40'×12' pice(enough for ~5-6 fulesize canopy )shipped from Maine to Washington ,boat wrap is cheep,strong(250lbs sqft snowload strong) easy to work with(thire is a small learning curve to figure out how hot is to hotwhen using fire to shrink/weld),shiny printable finish no extra work, repairable (with a micro torch and a spare pice) I have had this upto 95mph no flapping tight as a drum. I agree with you on maby next time try an experiment, as time is becoming of the essence on this project. And just like rawhide can bend steal so can boat wrap... so some strategy and bridge building/ load transfer logic must be applied (I fill this would be some fun time on the computer for a builder of your caliber)
. Or evan cheeper is an old polyester bed sheet good adhesive or sewit on like in the old days(preference for hot set )and an iron. Lick it stick it and iorn tight . Next my A&P cousin said to use latex paint as a Buell nitrate substitute because it shrinks as it drys(without UV protection your looking at a short ,sun rot out lifespan 1-3years)
. For a not so simple model like the baby a wire frame 1/8"rod maby smaller (hoops left to right) spaced 1/2"-12"front to back ,making sure enough load transfer bracing to hold shape cover with 1 layer of wrap followed by 1/8"-1/4" fome sheet trim to fit ,tape the seams . And this helps to smooth the transition between faucets =improved radius and fewer hoops) strech a 2nd layer for an organic smooth shape.
If I was in a Fairweather part of the country I could drop °15-25bs off my 35lbs toper by hust changing to fiberglass rod and epoxy joints .iwent with steal to support 50+lbs/sqft snow loading (dont much like the idea of being crushed in my sleep in the back of my truck)

fabric
I drove to Oshkosh in 1997,joined the EAA,and camped out there for the whole week, attending as many Alexander Sport Air workshops (all free) as I could juggle.
I watched them do a tail-dragger restoration,all the special sewing,reinforcements,doping etc..
Really light weight!
In college I worked for a veteran flight instructor who also did vintage,cloth-covered aircraft full restorations. It was my introduction to the technology.
My late neighbor Bob was a Vought/Boeing guy, owned and flew Luscombs, built a gyrocopter and I got to be around that as well.
Bob did a cloth-covered aeroshell for his Chevy and a cloth-covered boat tail for his Vanagon.
I hope to be around long enough to dirty my hands in this stuff.
Appreciate all the info.

What is being spaced here? Faucets?
Instead of bracing square openings, start with triangles (or diamonds or hexagons...). It has the smoothest angular breaks in the middle with sharper angles on the pointy ends. OTOH Zepplin style framing has heavier framing on the ends where it needs it in the middle.

Freebeard this is why I joined...I know a lot but I'm not a know it all. Thank you for the advice.the math required to do that by hand is beyond me... I had to build my canopy before I could wrap my head around how to draw it on paper. (Yes draw as in pencil and paper )I waited till it was built to start reaching the site for ideas to keep the idea pure and mying..as it turns out the way I "see"air flow matched the temple(I was off a small amount) . My uneducated guess CAN be close.as you can see from my V1 canape
The faucets are a result of using only 5 spars onV1 (hence the volume of supporting members suggested was for consistent raidi not strength) current V 1.2 they are reduced the only change to the skin support structure is the addition of 1/2" fome. Resulting in ~12"R insted of 1/4"R
V1.2
The way I've seen the boat wrap work each geometric panel would form a flat panel from bar to bar as in on V1, I could be seeing it rong.
How much would such a geodesic 1/4 dome weight in lbs made of 1/2 .095 round =.41lb/ft bair ,strong enough to hold out a road closing snow storm in the Sierra Nevada(10+feet in lessthan 6hrs.) I'm at 35lbs wraped

Everything I knew has been filtered through what I've learned here.
I agree that aerohead's baby Template could be built with welding rod. The reflex curves on your aerocap are a different case. Your solution is fit for purpose.

The theory with geodesic domes is that the size of the structure and the size of framing members is uncoupled; i.e., you could built a garage for that truck out of toothpicks. And they enclose space with the most economy, so I would say —potentially— less.
Faucets vs facets

Me too, it's not complex but it would be mind-numbingly repetitive to do it by hand. It was all done graphically, taking a 6v geodesic sphere and stretching it asymmetrically in two directions. Which was then sub-divided by the program (Wings 3D) to get the hexagonal overlay. So now I can point to any edge and get the length and endpoints in space just for asking.
What you did with the aerocap is more similar to my experiments with boat tailing a VW Beetle. I used 16' lengths of redwood bender board to find the correct curves from a point in the front to a vertical line in the rear.
I built it to look at it (it could be truncated at either of the two bulkheads) and then tore it down to recycle the redwood strips. I'm currently looking at used aluminum tubing to replicate it.

from random aerodynamic vehicle thread post 2144 this is the construction method I was referring to.

That looks like a submarine. There's a lot of [rusty] steel, but it is untriangulated. You could put an intermediate layer of steel birdcage under the aluminum and over this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandrail
...and have something that is ready to roll end-over-end. In miniature, I expect that's what aerohead is doing.
Don't you agree that the redwood strips over the windshield, with the front lip, on my Baja resembles the aerocap on your truck? Hand-selected redwood or spruce with properly lapped joins and epoxied hemp or basalt tape wrapped joints and it would be ready for boat [tail] wrap.
Better the windshield is a hexagon of glass with a triangle on each side.
