I helped with a race car for a couple years that we converted to battery fired and dropped the alternator to save weight and power. The car was a S2000 (Scca road racing) and uses a 2.0 ford motor (Old pinto engine...) Changes were made carefully and logged on the car because the class is so restricted on engine mods. Its all about ounces, aero and ingenuity...

The electric pump did a few things, first it allowed us to run the engine head temp exactly at the highest power yield, it allowed us to ditch almost 30 lbs (Alternator, shorter belt, water pump, and changed the plumbing to a much more efficient layout which helped aero. ) The pump we used was from another vendor but looked exactly like the davies ewp115.

The water pump conversion gave us about 1/2 second a lap. HUGE in this class.. We also ran a very small OddeseyBattery that we had a quick change for so we kept 2 on the charger and one in the car.

Getting rid of spinning weight on the engine for us was a big deal for extracting the most power, which should translate to lower fuel consumption... So we could run less weight in the tank..
