It's good that you said it's almost ready for production. Almost... In regard to the Atkinson cycle, it's also not just a theory and had been produced commercially before even though it still caters mostly to stationary appliances such as that co-generation set that Honda sells in Japan. Anyway, I wouldn't really hold my breath for a variable-compression engine because it's just cheaper to emulate that with a turbo (or a "twincharger" setup) which wouldn't require so much more tooling and machining neither increase the moving parts count. Not meaning that I don't believe it could ever reach the market at all.
