I don't know if the gasoline engine is dieing.
About 95% of vehicle sales are gasoline powered.
About 3% of the remaining 5% are diesel sales, then the remaining 1 or 2% are battery or large pack plug in hybrids, that can still burn gasoline.
The Department of Energy believes liquid fuel vehicles will still make up 80% of all new vehicle sales even as late as 2030.
