Disk brakes all around but none on the trailer. Never had a brake fade down any grade.
Haven't had much reason to haul more than 1000 lbs so I haven't missed trailer brakes.
Not a legal requirement until you exceed 2000 lbs, but like I said, 1000 is my self-imposed limit: 2000 pound car / 1000 pound trailer.
Used to drive 34-wheel, 120,000 lb, 105-foot crude oil supertrains over mountains with finger brake controls for the semi trailer and pup. That was occasionally useful. Way more dangerous than towing a trailer with a smart car. Don't tell the Aussie.
