I'm quite conservative when it comes to engine swaps on Beetles. Some years ago I used to think it was a waste to fit a liquid-cooled engine in a Beetle, but now I would either prefer a VW straight-4 or eventually a VR6 to keep it somewhat brand-loyal, or a Subaru flat-4 because of the fitment.
