I've run Hella H-4s halogens since the 1980s, when they were only legal in the USofA in Oregon and Washington state.

I really liked the halogens for the low beam cut-off. On low beam, when the car bounces, you can see the line move back and forth on the pavement. On high beam, they have more 'reach' than the LEDs I have now.

The aluminum tape is an attempt to fix the low beam cutoff. As daytime running lights, they are excellent and I do most of my driving in daylight nowadays.
