All the single-cylinder Diesel engines around 1000cc that I've ever seen were real boat-anchors, but you're right. It would be quite cool to fit some random horizontal-single Yanmar (or those Chinese copies) into a replica of those earlier Moto Guzzi bikes which were originally fitted with that 500cc horizontal-single IOE engine.
