IIRC 1440 is the displacement. Care to kick that over?

I don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me. To a certain point it resembles some of those old single-cylinder stationary Diesel engines around 0.9 to 1.5L

Yes, but at least in North America where motorcycles are more often ridden out of the urban setting for some long highway runs, even for many commuters, too many riders could care less about mpg when it comes to motorcycling.

I achieved 96.9 mpg by my own recording (101.82 per the official results) in the 2014 Mid-Ohio fuel challenge on an auto-engine inspired 2014 Honda CTX700; beating the next-best stock bike that was 1/4 the engine displacement of my bike, and I've found few people that find that feat impressive or care, and Honda has had very limited success with their products with this amazing power train here in the States, so this should sort of tell us why there aren't more mc fuel misers.

Motorcycles are seen there more as a recreational product than as a serious commuter. I bet it's way harder to find back there a household where motorcycles below 250cc are the primary (and eventually the only) vehicle available, while in the third-world it's not uncommon. Depending on the region, they actually outnumber cars by a good margin.

it would be hilarious to own a bike with a 1000cc single-piston diesel.

All the single-cylinder Diesel engines around 1000cc that I've ever seen were real boat-anchors, but you're right. It would be quite cool to fit some random horizontal-single Yanmar (or those Chinese copies) into a replica of those earlier Moto Guzzi bikes which were originally fitted with that 500cc horizontal-single IOE engine.

Nah... it would sound more like potato, potato, potato, potato, potato, potato.
