As RedDevil pointed out, you can't make wise economic choices if you're running through the store. I compare the price per oz or price per volume for nearly everything. I'll sometimes buy a name brand and generic and do a blind taste test to see if paying for the name makes any sense. Usually, it doesn't. The non-brand stuff is located on the bottom shelves, so you have to bend down to grab them.

When I was a bachelor, I would restock my supply of Hungry Man dinners about every 3 weeks, or whenever they were on sale for $2 each.

Now that I'm married, we go once per week and bring a list.
