I imagine what would happen if they didn't notice them. And then they don't pay attention at the register and, well, they've just got 10 packs of condoms and they have no idea how they got there.

I don't always go fast in the stores but I have been known to do the Shopping Cart Waltz listening to the elevator music and trying to get other shoppers involved in the dancing.

#1- The Supermarket Low Price Leader
As RedDevil pointed out, you can't make wise economic choices if you're running through the store. I compare the price per oz or price per volume for nearly everything. I'll sometimes buy a name brand and generic and do a blind taste test to see if paying for the name makes any sense. Usually, it doesn't. The non-brand stuff is located on the bottom shelves, so you have to bend down to grab them.
When I was a bachelor, I would restock my supply of Hungry Man dinners about every 3 weeks, or whenever they were on sale for $2 each.
Now that I'm married, we go once per week and bring a list.

Actually the prices are #3 on my list. #1 is the absolutely amazing number of things they have in bulk bins, like a dozen or so kinds of rice, maybe 20 kinds of flour...
I must admit, though, that I have never figured out their pricing model. Sometimes the large package of something, say cereal or tortillas, will be cheaper than the small package. Not just less per ounce, but the small one might be $2.99 and the large $2.89. Go figure that?

I often see this and wonder how that can be. Recently I saw 2-liter bottles of pop for $0.60 each. The 16 oz bottles were going for something like $1.25.
Maybe people are willing to pay extra for a bottle they can easily hold with 1 hand?

I buy ginger ale in the 8 pack of tiny cans. Every once in a while when one of the kids has a tummyache, I don't need to open a 3 liter half full of flat soda.
No packaging (or car...) is inherently more efficient than another. It all comes down to what you use it for.

I'm mostly get-in/get-out at the grocery store, too, but I don't mind browsing in the liquor section.
