If we do nothing to slow down and then stop burning fossil fuels - there will be no choice but to abandon ALL coastal human settlements. Carbon dioxide stops heat from exiting back out into space. We have more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere now than in the past million plus years - over that time, it was never higher than 300ppm - and now it is over 400ppm.
IF we have not already set off massive feedback amplifiers (melting tundra, re-release from sea water due to warming, melting clathrates, reduced albedo, etc) - then we WILL at some point.
