It won't please everybody. They wanted to keep production cost low, so you get just a few options. Also, as explained in the video Neil linked to, it is a system thing; everything is focused on keeping it simple to use, keeping it minimal. Everything on the screen. It is a concept, and all the extras are there with that concept in mind, designed to merge seamlessly.
A bit like Apple does. Tesla compares to iOS like all the other cars compare to Windows. So it takes some getting used to and you are forced to do some things in a certain way, but in the end it is easier and more pleasant to use and it will crash less often
