Hi from the Great White North!

Hi all,

I just bought a new set of wheels -- 2008 Mazda B2300 pickup with a five-speed automatic transmission and A/C -- basically a Ford Ranger in East Asian clothing.

My previous vehicle was a 1999 Mazda 626 with the 2.0 liter four and automatic transmission with overdrive. My usual driving is a mix -- mostly rural trips but not really highway -- rolling country roads with stops and slow turns in little towns between home and work, which is 25 miles from home. My 626 did 36 mpg average (30 mpg using U.S. gallons, but I'm still stuck in Imperial liquid measure). The new truck is still in the break-in period, and average to date is about 32 mpg (roughly 27 mpg using U.S. gallons).

On a good day, gas is $1.20 a liter here. That works out to CDN $4.536 per U.S. gallon, or U.S. $4.811 based on today's exchange rate. In order to help keep my fuel costs to a minimum, I have installed a ScanGauge II and a Freedom Trifold tonneau cover, and I always try to drive like my Mom was in the front seat with me

I'm glad to have found this place, and I look forward to learning lots about hypermiling and ecomodding. I'll try to use the search function before I ask questions -- I'm not new to the vBulletin forum system.

Cheers,

bluesfan
