The passenger miles per gallon for the Elio and the subcompact are close if car pooling. Spent another $2000 on the aerodynamic body shell and gearing for the motorcycle and you might do 200 mpg. I believe the mpg for the Elio is credible based on the aerodynamics. Ecomodders have vehicles posting 79-81 mpg with aeropackages.

But the ecomodders won't get 84 mpg in the EPA test cycle and that's what ever other car has to advertise. My minivan can get "up to" 84 mpg, heck my full size 4x4 SUV with a Hemi could. Currently the best conventional gasoline car made gets 43 mpg highway under the current EPA spec which again is what everybody else has to use in advertising. So the Elio get's almost double that? I don't think so.
