The passenger miles per gallon for the Elio and the subcompact are close if car pooling. Spent another $2000 on the aerodynamic body shell and gearing for the motorcycle and you might do 200 mpg. I believe the mpg for the Elio is credible based on the aerodynamics. Ecomodders have vehicles posting 79-81 mpg with aeropackages.
Makes me wonder how a 300cc motorcycle with a streamlined body shell would fare coupled to a side-car, sure also aerodynamically-enhanced.

Probably not much worse than a streamliner motorcycle, as you just made it much more stable and can now make so many more 'compromises' for the sake of aero, like not needing to put your foot down at lights or balancing in crosswinds

But the ecomodders won't get 84 mpg in the EPA test cycle and that's what ever other car has to advertise. My minivan can get "up to" 84 mpg, heck my full size 4x4 SUV with a Hemi could. Currently the best conventional gasoline car made gets 43 mpg highway under the current EPA spec which again is what everybody else has to use in advertising. So the Elio get's almost double that? I don't think so.

Destination charge is $865, taxes would be $0 some places (like here), TTL would be around $400 tops, options, don't get any $0. So out the door $11264.

Elio by comparison is now $7450 with the same disclaimers and I bet they want more than $865 for destination.

Of course the Versa is actually real, which to me is worth $2650 more. I can imagine driving a Ferrari for less than $7450.

Imagination is a heck of a drug. For how long would that rental be?

I hope the Elio makes it into production, but suspect it will not.

I hope Elio makes it into probation, once all is settled?
