If fossil fuels become scarce, then the price on them will increase to the point at which everybody will switch to alternatives.

Are you under the impression that electricity is inherently not?

I agree that it is important to have alternative energy sources. I just don't think we have to resort to totalitarian governments in order to make something that a free market WILL provide when it actually makes sense to do so.
