There are a couple of key words in the first paragraph of that article: "unpaid internship". I know CS majors who are pulling down around $70K as interns. EEs make around $60K, MEs around the mid-$50s. If your current major features unpaid internships (and you don't have a decent trust fund to fall back on), run like hell :-)

Nor do you have to go to college to make a decent living. Neighbors' kid did an apprenticeship as an electric lineman: he's in his 30s now, and makes well over $100K/yr.
