I have handled food properly and still had it go bad before the stamped date, which usually says "Best by."
I needed to get the landlord involved because that roommate kept putting away my Foreman grill which I used (and cleaned) twice a day.
Meanwhile, he kept a food dehydrator on the counter, which he almost never used.
