Integrating the electric-assist drive and the engine sounds quite labor-intensive, plus it's quite arguable that you would actually break-even the conversion cost. You could eventually get the engine tuned to a higher efficiency. A more modern truck with an already higher fuel-efficiency would probably be better as a reliable workhorse, unless you're just too fond of the looks of an old C-10. But anyway, considering how the newer trucks grew bigger than their older counterparts, it wouldn't seem to odd to retrofit a C-10 with a smaller engine out of a Colorado, for example.
