Water, yes. Heat, I'm not certain. I have some pretty close to my engine, but not in contact with it, and none close to my exhaust. In the Scion xA aeromod thread, NeilBlanchard posted pics of a rear-undertray on his xA, and I just asked about how it's holding up around the muffler. If it doesn't melt or start on fire under his car, he may be on to something.
