I'm an engineer and I work for a vehicle manufacturer. Nobody at DEQ (our emission testers) care what you do for a living. If your car fails the test it fails the test. Engineers also don't get conditional registrations for experimental vehicles.

Vehicle manufactures can get plates for test vehicles that can only be used for specific and well documented testing.
